May May, Change to June Another Day

I’m so behind the times these days. I can’t remember everything that’s happened this month, but I’ll try to recap. First of all, I have been so lazy this whole quarter. It is a little upsetting how much time I am capable of wasting and how little I seem to be learning. I’m just hoping that I get out without failing any classes, otherwise I will be failing at life, because I won’t finish in time like I’m planning to. Anyway, here we go:

The roomies and I attended Spring Sing this year on Friday, May 2nd, but the tickets were not easy to come by. We seemed to have lagged during the sale of the first wave of tickets and before we knew it, they were all sold out. During the second release, none of us were able to go because we all had class during that time. But the week of the event, word on the street was that they were secretly releasing some more tickets on the day of. I went over an hour early to wait in line just in case. Fortunately, there was only one other person, but we were unsure about whether or not there were really tickets coming out that day. The guy in front of us, Michelle, and I waited and waited and then the manager of the Central Ticketing Office came out and told us it was legit. We were going to Spring Sing! YEAHH. So Michelle and I got four tickets total in this location that didn’t seem all that close but whatever, we had tickets! When we got there, though, we found out that those seats were FREAKIN’ AWESOME. There were no giant heads to block our views and it was pretty close. The only thing that sucked was that people kept walking in front of us because they were too lazy to trek up the stairs and back down again. I guess I don’t blame them, because that could be pretty tiresome.

The acts were really good this year and I must say, I didn’t hate the sorority/frat acts this year. They seemed to have cut back on the annoyingness. Company was alright. There were one or two skits that weren’t particularly funny. I liked last year’s stuff a lot better, but some of their skits were quite clever. “The Hill” seemed to have caught some attention in the media, according to my friend, and some of my more favored skits were the musical numbers, even though there seemed to be an abundance of people who couldn’t quite hit the right notes half the time in comparison to last year. I’m not hating on them; singing isn’t easy. I pretty much liked all the acts, except one of the a capella groups didn’t sit well with me. Their constant yelling made me cringe a little, but the ScatterTones got a well deserved win singing “Always Be My Baby” by Mariah Carey. My favorite group act was 3:26. They did a really good combo of different sounds and styles of music. One of the most exciting parts of the show was when Lionel Richie came out to receive the Gershwin Award. He’s pretty awweesome.

The day after that, the roomies and I attended the Tau Theta Pi formal to support our real hat, Meeshella. It was a fancy party at the Radisson Hotel near LAX and we probably spent a fourth of our time there in the hallway because this couch area was really cute, so of course we had to take pictures there. A lot of them.

As I mentioned previously, I got a bicycle. If you haven’t already seen it in my Flickr badge, here it is again. It is a little frustrating sometimes because it’s so heavy for a folding bike, but I’m not totally accustomed to it yet. I think it’ll get easier over time as I get more muscular. Puhaha. It’s not very clean yet, but my genius Jesse and I discovered the magic of aluminum and lemons when we started cleaning it one weekend. If you ever have rust problems, lemons and aluminum are the way to go!

Last, last Wednesday, Whitey and the Orientals did a reunion show at Hyperion Tavern, except without the original Whitey and maybe a couple of new Orientals. haha. We played a few songs and then called it a night because the wait to play is always so long and it was getting purty late. ‘Twas fun, though, and I think Michelle and I probably scared most of the people in the car. :)

On the 18th, I came back to school early, because I had call time for my gospel choir concert at 2pm and I was running extremely late. I apparently was the only one who didn’t get the memo that call time was changed to 3pm, but lucky for me, that was the time I arrived and I was even a few minutes early. The concert went awesome, but because I showed up to the actual show a little late, I had nowhere to stand. Some nice people were friendly enough to scoot in a little so I could get some standing room on the riser, but I had to keep checking where my feet were to make sure I didn’t rock out so hard that I fell off.

Looking very frumpy in my concert attire that I was not particularly proud of and did not bother to look at in the mirror since I was running late to my call time, I could’ve cared less about who saw me in it when we stopped by Ralphs on our way home for a couple boxes of ice cream, but when I arrived at our pitch black apartment to find an ecclectic group of people yelling “Surprise!” at me, I briskly headed to my room to change, because knowing my roommate, there was going to be photographic evidence. Even though we almost always have a surprise in store for every birthday, for some reason it still comes as a surprise. I’d say we’re pretty slick party planners. Although it was not the video game costume party we originally planned but didn’t end up throwing due to some unscheduled conflicts, it was just as nice and my friendly neighborinos lent us Rockband to disturb all the other neighbors with. I sang and played, enjoying the company and ignoring the fact that I had lots of homework. I think it was well worth it. Thanks everyone who came. :) My only birthday wish this year is to find a nice British boyfriend when I go to Europe. Please help me make my wish come true!

That’s about all that’s been going on as of late. I watched a couple of movies this past weekend, which included Sicko and 27 Dresses. I also saw Atonement recently. Totally not the new Titanic. Whoever said that is mad! More about movies later. Also hung out with some old friends. Yays. I have to call jury duty now to tell them they’re idiots for summoning me again after I already served my civil duty barely two months ago.

And by the way, HENRY VS. GIO! AHH! My allegiance lies with Henry, since he won my heart from the start, but I think Betty’s going to pick Gio, because Henry is too perfect for her and he’s leaving her for me anyway. Gio would provide a better balance in the relationship because she and Henry are too cute and safe, while Gio is more adventurous and spontaneous. Of course, all stupid girls go for the bad boy, so I wouldn’t be that surprised if she went for Gio. I’m more into the nerdy, nice type, though, so screw that!

Thanks everyone who was nice to me for a day to celebrate my existence! :P Big thanks to my roommates because they’re better than yours and brought all the boys to the yard, literally. But by yard, I mean livingroom.

More to come when I’m not pretending to do homework.

Before I get to the pictures, here’s a little update:
I go through many, many cough drops a day. Good thing I got the 80 pack from CVS, which conveniently came with a Chapstick knockoff. Convenient, I say, because I think I recently lost my generic Sav-On one. I lose them so often and they usually resurface somewhere, but I had a gut feeling that this one was lost for good. Why CVS was crazy enough to give away these babies, who knows? The only cough drops I really like are lemon-flavored Ricolas, but those do absolutely nothing for me so I just eat them like candy. I recently discovered some Vicks cough drops that were pretty tasty, but I needed a giant pack to help me cut back on my coughing fits. They hurt my already-in-pain abs something awful. And now I forever have a something awful taste in my mouth. Great trade-off. I also bought a huge pack of ham yesterday. Mmm. I don’t know why I love ham so much. I always have though. I eat it the way people eat string cheese. And by the way, what’s with Whole Foods and their crazy deli meats selection? I just want normal ham.

So here are some pictures from last week from our Dollar Christmas and Selwyn’s birthday celebrations. Some of them lead to sets of photos. Try to guess which.

Winter Break! Woo!

Not only was I elated as my last final came to an end, I was also leaping for joy that I was going home and starting winter break and it was Tony’s birthday, which is as great as Shaolin Soccer! :D As soon as I got home, I was whisked away to Riverside by my lovely buddies Kurtis, Janice, and Jayder, who came to pick me up! We discussed an assortment of things, but mostly how much Janice and I are in love with Wang Leehom and how excited the guys were to go to China, and we were telling them all about the wonders and plunders.

We finally got to Riverside after having taken a “shortcut” by following the guys’ friend that actually turned out to be the long way. It was awesome to see old friends that I haven’t seen in a long time and celebrate with Tony. Many of the guys there made him drink unhealthy quantities of alcohol, which resulted in him feeling ungood later on and meeting with the toilet quite a few times.

I played a little MarioKart and some fortune telling games. I learned a new game and it was creepily accurate. I suppose we were playing music too loud or something because some form of authority came a-knockin’. I think they were security. Security of what, I am not sure, because I’ve never heard of an apartment complex near a college have its own security. After a while, people started passing out from tiredness, which I thought was really funny. We’s old.

Happy birthday, G-don.

There as in the roller rink that Jessica Simpson shot “Public Affair” at to celebrate Katlyn’s birthday. Yayyy! Our first real apartmentmate outing (besides to Cue)! And you know what? It totally looks exactly like the video, choreographed dancers, creepy Andy Dick, Jessica Simpson and posse and all! Haha. What I don’t get…is how Jessica Simpson and her friends even got in, because there is a sign posted outside that specifically tells you that you are not allowed to go in if you wear everything that they are wearing. Luckily, we were dressed appropriately enough to get in, though not too conventional. Already as we were putting on our skates, there was some snickering and pointing. I sensed a little jealousy. Maybe some Haterade. Not everyone can rock several fluorescent colors at once.

The last time I rollerskated had to be when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade or something. I thought I would just be able to pick it up again, but I felt like I was the one struggling the most at first. haha. It’s totally not the way I remembered it to be. After a couple rounds, the DJ told us to stop skating to honor this girl celebrating her birthday there. My way of stopping when it comes to any kind of skating is usually by running into something, sometimes a person but for the most part, I run into walls. After I stopped, I thought I was safe, and then I found myself meeting the floor. Luckily, I was collision-free for the rest of the night. We skated until the rink closed and it was soo fun but tiring and painful on the footsies. Rollerskates are not the most comfortable type of footwear. Some of the people there were quite amazing. This one lady was like the Michelle Kwan of rollerskating or something. It was pretty intense. Some of the young’ns were also really good, but a little strange. This one guy gave me the longest, weeeirdest glance, and I do not know why I was targeted for it, but I continued to mimic it for the rest of the night. Maybe we’ll incorporate it into our wide range of soul train moves.

There was this stupid guy in a referee outfit kept bugging Helen about things she couldn’t do in the rink for no apparent reason. I guess he just sensed fresh meat and decided to attack. I had urges to blind him with camera flashes from the side of the rink. Or perhaps just straight up trip him. I did not let the urges get the best of me because we were having a lot of fun and really, he was just some guy who thought he was the shizz because he wears a referee’s shirt and works at a roller rink and picks on people to make sure they sense what he believes is authority. Why bother? Instead, we just enjoyed the music and roller dancing. haha. No one parties it up like we do.

We found out afterwards that that was the place the video was shot and that Disney does some stuff there every once in a while, AND that it’s been around since the 50s. The lady who runs it now, I guess, actually used to work there when she was in her teens or something. That’s so crazy.

We topped off the night with drinks and snackage at BJ’s and just talked about our quarters and whatnot. It’s so nice to take a break from school and go out. I love my apartmentmates! And happy birthday Katlyn!! :)

Can’t spell weekend without “wee”!

It’s Veterans’ Day weekend and I’m going to relaxi-taxi and it’s going to be great! Tomorrow night I’m going to see Cirque du Soleil and I’m pretty excited about it. I don’t really know what it is, but from what I saw in Knocked Up, it’s pretty trippy. I also hope to get some homework in because it never ends!

So I looked at all the most recent entries I’ve written and I realized that I’m missing big chunks of exciting junk that’s happened! For Helen’s birthday, we surprised her at midnight with some leftover cake I had brought back to the apartment. We love crap parties! The real surprise party was a tea party, because she likes tea and parties so we put together the best of both worlds. We had cookies, crackers, cheese, hummus, peanut butter, and all that good stuff.

Afterwards, we had a little photoshoot, because that’s how we do. If anyone wants to see pictures, Helen’s posted them up. But if we don’t know you, then.. there are no pictures and Helen posted nothing up.

That weekend we went to the Cal game (My first college football game! Actually, my first college game, period!) and it was freaking awesome, especially after I bought my frozen lemonade. We were all so tired, because Helen, Michelle and I stayed up late preparing for Saturday. We decorated t-shirts for the guys to wear but only Jireh wore his, which was very much appreciated. Before the game we had a little tailgate party. We were so ashamed of our so-called barbeque (some people go nuts and go all out) that we hid it behind the car, which is what all the Cal people do, I guess, so people don’t come and kick over their grills. We had some trouble with the grill but after a while it started working, because apparently, nothing gets a fire going better than soiled hotdogs in the pit.

The game was pretty excited during fourth quarter, but earlier on, I was kind of bored. I mean, there is only so many times you want to do the 8 Clap. I don’t know why we don’t have other cheers. I fell asleep periodically, because I was so sleep deprived and it was ultra hot and I totally got sunburnt, all the elements needed to make me lethargic. I got really thirsty after a while and our drinks were turned away at the door, so I spent all the money I had on me (five bucks) on a frozen lemonade and life was good again. I felt so happy after that that it didn’t matter how the game was going. haha. We were behind most of the game and then it got all crazy towards the end. So crazy, in fact, that when UCLA intercepted the ball, which eventually led to a touchdown, the man in front of me got a little too excited and toppled over backwards as he turned around. To this day, the image plays in my head and I have bouts of uncontrollable laughter. I wish we caught it on camera.

I also never mentioned our weekend in Civerside! Michelle and I traveled to the far depths of Riverside for a weekend and it turned out to be much funner than anticipated. That is where Michelle and I got our famous Soul Train move, which is always a hit at parties.. all one of them. haha. It was her friend’s birthday and we barbequed hotdogs and junks and smothered them in barbeque sauce. The drunks that aren’t belligerent are quite fun to be around. I also got to visit Tony that weekend and I played Mariokart with him and his roomies. I love Mariokart!

hats!

For Michelle’s birthday, we celebrated in several ways. These are our supposed Halloween costumes, but really, we just look like this all the time. This was the great Tiramisu surprise. The hats were actually from the great Yoshinoya surprise. We rented out a Yoshinoya and got a ball pit and everything. It was pretty awesome. haha. Just kidding. We turned our apartment into Yoshinoya, sort of. And then we built her a ball pit, sort of. And I made some hats from Yoshinoya bowl covers. hahaha. The weird thing was that the guy we ordered from didn’t seem to think it was weird at all that I asked for them. The surprise was quite delicious. Thursday night we went to The Melting Pot in Old Town Pasadena and it was yummus. I was extra happy because I was done with my stupid midterm. Then Sunday night, when this picture was taken, we surprised her again with cake. Yayy!

That title has nothing to do with anything really, but the song popped into my head all of a sudden.

I’ve been doing some knitting and my cardigan is well on its way. I suspect it will be very itchy and kind of baggy, but it’s just practice so it’s cool beans. I think after the sweater I will finally have a chance to make myself a new scarf with the gray and green yarn I bought a super long time ago. I’m quite excited because I will use some new patterns from this Pattern-A-Day calendar my sister bought me at the beginning of the year. YEAH. For some reason I forgot that the needles I have been using are circular needles, so every time I saw a pattern I wanted to make and it said that I needed circular needles I’d get mad at the world because everything I always want to make requires supplies I do not have, but it turns out I have that particular item. haha. I don’t know why it took me so long to figure it out, even though I had bought them specifically because they are circular. Sigh.

Anyway, this past Sunday I went to a party for my childhood best friend’s sister’s hubby. haha. Complicated. It was a pool party and I think I got a lot darker. I am a strange color now. I don’t remember the last time I was ever this tan, though normal people would probably not consider it tan at all. That’s how sickly pale I was before. I had a jolly good time pruning for three hours and going on the water slide at the El Monte Aquatic Center. There was a scary moment when this kid almost drowned but his dad like flew into the water and pulled him out, no help from the lifeguards. There were four or five lifeguards on duty and somehow they all missed the almost drowning kid. o_O? After that we hung out at Jennifer’s (my childhood best friend’s) aunt’s house and I decided I really want one of those little cars you see at the mall where you wiggle the steering wheel to drive it. They’re so freakin’ awesome.

Apartment hunting has not been successful, but I found some back-up ones, I suppose. I did get to go to Diddy Riese though. Yumm.

No more teenage angst

Now it’s twenty-something-year-old angst. EWETH.

I was slightly disappointed this year (not Thursday of course!) but I guess I kind of got what I wished for. haha. And it’s very minor, slight disappointment, because all other aspects of the day were cool. I had some adventures too so that was…interesting. I feel like the day taught me what I value too much and what I should value more. I had come to dread my birthday because I felt like it was not worth celebrating. I feel I have been the same person every year for a very long time, so why celebrate when I wasn’t really growing? But the fact that people wanted to do nice stuff for me was really….well, nice, for lack of better words. And also, the fact that I am learning from this year is a sign that I am indeed growing.

I am sorry to my friends at school for not cooperating earlier in the week, but really, I would not have cared where we were as long as I got to be with awesome friends. Thank you so much for everything you guys did and for putting up with me. I wanted to take fishbowl pictures but I couldn’t find film. haha. I love you guys! :)

I was asked to go to Sungod this year, because it happened to land on the same day as my birthday and I thought it was a tough decision to make up until the point that I left home Sunday night of this week. Right before I left, my mom said to me, “Make sure you come back early so I can cook dinner for you on Friday,” and I almost wanted to cry because of how she said it and also, I remembered that I did not see my whole family birthday weekend last year. My sister and mom were in China at the time, but even though internet access is kind of limited and whatnot over there, my sister still sent me lovely messages and told me about stuff she bought for me. haha. So after that it was really easy to make my decision, especially after my brother (a little later) was like, “I think she really wants you to come back next weekend.” I only told one or two people so no one really understood why I chose not to go to San Diego.

So Thursday night my kind friends from school tied me up and put me in Helen’s trunk with a Jawbreaker in my mouth and I died. Wait, wrong life. That movie’s freakishly weird. Anyways, my pallies surprise-stole me away to CPK. There was no tying or blindfolding involved, luckily. The service was craptacular and I wish we just left without tipping because that server was an a-hole and obviously racist. It had nothing to do with age, because come on, it’s a college town. The people sitting right next to us were probably from school too and yet he helped them way before us, even though we had gotten there first. *shakes fist* I was starting to get really annoyed because it was cutting really close to our next venture, which was to watch Shrek the Third’s early showing. Woot! But unwoot was the dumb server guy. I don’t know how many times we had to ask for our check before he finally came with it. My sister ended up driving us over to the theater instead of us walking as originally planned. We so would not have made it. haha. And we so would not have made it back to the structure afterwards either, which closes at 12, the time they supposedly tow your car (STUPID liars), because we were friggin’ far, mang. Shrek the Third was frickin’ hilarious and I laughed almost throughout the whole thing. They should’ve realized how funny the movie is and made more pauses after certain funny parts because sometimes I missed lines. The part that keeps getting stuck in my head is Snow White’s scary side. hahahah. That was so awesome. I’m not quite sure how awesome this movie was in relation to the other two, because I have not watched those recently, but I think I liked the second one a little more, not that I did not love this one.

I heart my sister so much for coming out and hanging out with me. I think I will promise her that I won’t make her cry when we’re old. hahaha. Inside joke but kind of a sad one, come to think of it. She was going to stay over because it was so late and she had work in the morning but parking became an issue, so she had to drive all the way home. :(

So as I said before, Friday was quite an adventure. After class, it was Metro all the way home. I had to take two buses and hopefully I will not have to do this again for a while, because some parts of it sucked butt. I felt like such a noob on the first bus. I totally broke the rule of not giving up my seat to the elderly and disabled, simply because I could not move. Also, I bought a transfer but realized I couldn’t use it on the next bus. Luckily the bus driver was really nice and gave me a refund and told me the last time they did inter-bus transfers was three years ago. hahaha. Wow. So back to the not giving up my seat thing…MAN did I feel like a big fat jerk. There was this old man trying to push me out of my seat when the bus was getting packed and I seriously could not move so I just looked down because I didn’t know what to do. Old people are one of the scariest kinds of people out there, mang. And later on when the bus settled and got emptier, the same old man came up and sat right next to me when the lady next to me got up and started talking to me but I had no idea what he was saying. All I could think of was how horrible his breath was and what a jerk I was for not moving. Speaking of jerks, the lady next to me most of the way was a BIYAAATCH. She kept acting like she was the queen of Metro or something. She was so ruuude. She yelled at this guy because his bag touched her and she pushed it out of her face, pushing him a little as well. He apologized and said that he couldn’t help it because people were pushing him, but she just gave him her death glare. Then this lady stood in front of her, who did not smell at all, but she covered her face with her jacket, I guess because the lady was too close to her face, but her gestures implied that she reeked. Later on, though, there was this guy who really did reek and the both of us were covering our faces. haha. Oh man was he smelly. His pits were like right in front of us, too, OMG. I stopped breathing for a while and then had to breathe through my mouth. I so wish I did not sit in the front.

Waiting for the next bus was so scary, because I had to wait somewhere downtown and it was such a shady looking area. I had this idea in my head (probably from movies and shows) that at any moment someone was going to grab my duffel bag and run away with it, which would be silly, because it was just my laundry and it’s pretty heavy, so I don’t imagine them getting very far with it. I decided the safest thing to do was to stand with my back very close toward a wall so I could see everything before me. I felt like the second bus took forever to come and I think the one I was supposed to go on was ahead of schedule or something. This time I sat all the way in the back, hoping no one would come near me, especially not old people. After a while, I got bored so I started knitting and some guy started talking to me about his mom’s knitting and crocheting, but I only heard like half of it. I just smiled and nodded and it was okay.

I made a few observations while in the front of the first bus. For the most part, people that go on buses do not smell unpleasant. Plus, this bus was much newer than the ones I traveled on as a kid so the bus itself did not stink. Looking at everyone that got on the bus, I do not feel that the seats are big enough for the majority of the travelers. At first I took up two seats, still not realizing the rule, but this lady yelled at me to only take one and I realized it was pretty selfish of me, so I had to put my feet on top of my duffel bag and hold my backpack on my lap. When the big rude lady in all white plopped down next to me, I was forced into about a square foot of space, no joke. I’m so glad I took a seat that was at the end of the bench, otherwise I’d be squished between two big people and who knows what the other person would have smelled like. Another thing I noticed was this guy who was like..hustling or something. haha. I don’t know what to call it exactly, but he seemed like a pimp. hahaha. He was scary.

The trip took a total of about three hours and when I finally got the frick off the second bus, I was so happy. My mom picked me up and took me straight to eat dimsum and I finally got to eat Chinese food. Woooo. I didn’t do anything the rest of the day besides laundry. Weee. My mommer made a nice dinner for me and my grandma came over to eat with us. :D I heart my family. After din, I took some pictures and then my sister and I were too full to play DDR, so my mom and I started watching Curse of the Golden Flower, which was freakin’ intense. I liked it. The cinematography was so pretty. And I am glad that Jay Chou was the least stupid of the princes. haha. Such a messed up family, geesh.

Anyway, thanks to the handful of people who wished me a happy birthday! You guys are awesome :P

Happy Birthdays to the April babies
Sunday, April 22, 2007, 12:40 pm

There are still some birthdays left this month, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY to those whose birthdays have already passed. Most of you are abandoning teendom involuntarily, but at least a year from now you can be in Vegas gambling away your life savings. YEAH. I have less than a month left, but I don’t really want to celebrate. It’s mostly just like any other day. The way I am “celebrating” is by going to watch Shrek 3, I hope, and wishing that the weekend will not end, as I have every week for most of this year, because I do not want to go back to my hellhole, ahem, I mean dorm.

But anyway, this wasn’t supposed to be about me. I sincerely wish everyone a happy burstday and hope that you celebrate life every day. Spend it with people you love! And don’t dwell on the past. :] And most importantly, wear your seatbelt and smile lots.
